Connections of feisty filly Canshebee hope she leaves a mark of a different kind at Lismore on Friday.

The three-year-old, with a penchant for biting and kicking those caught unawares, tackles the Restore Common Law Rights For Injured Workers Benchmark 55 Hcp (1100m).

“She’s only little but feisty with a bit of a temperament,” Lismore-based trainer Owen Glue said of the daughter of Snippetson.

“She’d bite and kick you as soon as look at you.

“She’s caught a few people out. You just don’t turn your back on her.”

Temperament issues aside, Canshebee has produced a win and two placings from as many starts this campaign and Glue is confident the filly still has plenty of upside.

Her biggest attribute is the manner in which she attacks the line.

“She just took a while to learn what it’s all about,” Glue said.

“This time in she’s come back better than ever, going nice.

“And I don’t think we’ve seen the best of her yet. Next campaign I think she’ll be a pretty handy filly.”

Glue purchased Canshebee for $4000 at the Scone yearling sales.

She is raced by auctioneer and local stock and station agent Kevin Cocciola and retired policeman Wayne Carroll who also shares in the partnership of Glue’s good sprinter Far Dooley.

After trialling well, Canshebee resumed with a fast-finishing win over 1010m at Ballina on October 29 then again hit the line strongly, when cramped for room late, when a length second to the promising Power Receiver in a 3YO Country Plate over 1000m at the same track on November 15.

Last start, the filly got well back out of her ground – 10th of 12 on settling – when beaten just over two lengths when third to Ishi Naughty over 1100m at Lismore on December 4.

“She just got too far back at Lismore but rattled home,” Glue said.

“She hasn’t got a lot of early speed but is a great finisher, hits the line strongly.

“Tomorrow she’s up in class but there isn’t much around for her.

“Hopefully she can get a crack at them somewhere in the straight.”

After apprentice Kirk Matheson’s three-kilogram claim Canshebee carries 52kg and jumps from barrier six.
